A Lot of Confusion in a Very Small Package

This model (BCG-34H S2E) is very similar to Model BCG-34H TD2K, but it supports worldwide voltage (100v-240v) and it has a 9-hour charge time (vs 7 hours, 110v only for the BCG-34H TD2K). Alternate model BCG-34H S2K (9 hr, 100-240v) comes with Low-Self-Discharge batteries --> Value Cycle Energy Power Charger with 2 Aa Batteries

All three models WILL charge single batteries or any combination of AAA and AA at the same time.

All three models come with owner manuals heavy on contradiction and unhelpful gibberish (see below).

The manual suggests that this is a dumb charger (9-hour cycle) while also hinting that it's an intelligent charger. I'll guess dumb, since charge light + warm batteries continue for 9 hours even if they only need a partial recharge.

It's a nice compact design, good for travel.

The slow charge rate could be a hassle, but it's maybe better for the batteries (they get warm, but not hot).

If you can, spring for an intelligent charger: Sony BCG-34HRMF4 Battery Charger with LCD Display and 4 AA Ni-MH Rechargeable Batteries or Sony Cycle Energy Quick Refresh Charger with 4 Aa Batteries

From the Owner's Manual:

* Charging time will vary depending on the charging conditions and remaining capacity of the rechargeable battery.

* The batteries should be fully discharged before they are recharged.

* The LED indicator will turn off in 9 hours. The batteries are now ready for use.


It also asks you to do things you and your family will not remember to do (doesn't explain what's at stake). Quote:

* The batteries must be inserted before the charger is plugged into the outlet.

* The charger should be disconnected from the outlet when the charging process is complete or when the charger is not in use.


The manual also has the following outrageous statement:

* "WARNING: Use only Sony AA or AAA size Ni-MH rechargeable batteries."
